SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) will peruse Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's statement that the state government's water treatment plants which it manages, do not produce enough treated water and were poorly maintained.
Executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said Syabas would bring the matter to its management meeting to study if there was any basis to the allegation.
"I have read the statement in the newspapers today and we will examine the allegation before making any statement," he said after chairing the Malay Economic Consultative Council (Mapem) meeting here Thursday.
Abdul Khalid was reported as saying two accounting firms were appointed to study Syabas' accounts and operations.
This was in preparation to prevent water shortage in Selangor, without depending on the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant, he said.
He said the study was carried out, especially in terms of the usage of state assets, including water treatment plants which would be restored so that Selangor could have adequate water.
Meanwhile, Rozali said Mapem members would hold meetings with businessmen nationwide, through the outreach programme soon, to explain the initiatives of the Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) and the 2012 Budget.
Rozali, who is also Mapem president, said the outreach programme was a joint-venture between Mapem, Teraju, Entrepreneurs Division, International Trade and Industry, SME Corp and Mapem affiliate bodies at state levels.
"This is to ensure members could be assisted and obtain opportunities. Hence, we are able to carry out the aim of the government to help Malay entrepreneurs in business, have more Malays in commerce, and boost the economy," he said.-- BERNAMA
