TAMAN Melawati Phase 3 residents are urging Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) to resolve the frequent water supply disruptions in the area immediately.
Streets visited the area and found that the water supply was disrupted from last Thursday till close to midnight on Sunday .
One of the residents, Zaini Alawiah Sulaiman, 45, said that since 2004, the water supply problem has gradually worsened.
Disruptions used to happen about four times annually, but last year, it happened almost once every two months.
She said the disruptions were also longer these days, from about three hours to several days.
"We do not want this to happen again," Zaini said, adding that the residents are puzzled over the frequent disruptions.
Zaini said various responses were given by Syabas customer service (Puspel) hotline attendants, such as problems with the irrigation system, pumps and pipe condition.
Dayang Maimunah Abang Kassim, 65, said, there was no prior notice from Syabas before the latest water cut.
"There was also no announcement from the Syabas when the tanker would be making its rounds to bring us water, so we had to wait," she said.
Syabas' 1,200 gallon tanker dropped by Jalan C10 around 10am, 4.30pm and 10pm.
Another resident, who wished to be known as Chew, wants the problems to be settled immediately.
Chew, who has lived in the area for the past 20 years, said there were times when the water was muddy.
"The problems with the water supply and water quality here are unbearable. Senior citizens have difficulties carrying around heavy containers of water," she said, adding that the repair work on the pipe has taken place several times in front of her house in Jalan C3.
Chew's neighbour, Agnes Beh, 70, said that water supply disruptions occurred during the festive season as well.
"It is difficult for residents with small children and when we have visitors," she said.
Malkeet Singh, 44, said the disruptions make it difficult for his children to get themselves ready for school.
"I also have an elderly relative at home," he said.
Khairul Iman Sulaiman, 13, said he has resorted to bathing at a nearby mosque.
Dr Loh Wan Hung, 59, said at around 6.30pm last Sunday, a Puspel hotline attendant told him the water pump problem had been rectified. However, the water pressure had not yet built up.
"There is a lack of communication between Syabas and residents in this situation," Loh said, adding that he was disappointed that no notice was sent out.--NST Online
