PKR’s Rafizi Ramli today alleged that the current water supply disruptions hitting Klang Valley residents were due to “political sabotage” by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS).
The PKR strategy director said SYABAS executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail’s explanations over the water supply crisis was nonsensical, and that the entire affair was a political gambit by rivals Umno.
Rozali was formerly treasurer to Umno Selangor.
“Therefore, in desperation, Umno with the blessings of Datuk Seri Najib took the decision to sabotage the water supply in Selangor to cause the people to hate Pakatan Rakyat,” Rafizi said at a press conference here.
He also unveiled PKR’s action plan to alleviate the water supply problem.
He said the party will buy and install water pumps at affected flats so that residents could get direct water supply, instead of carrying water from the supply tankers.Rafizi said that PKR will launch a campaign next week to push for a cut in Rozali’s salary as the chief executive director of Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad.
Puncak Niaga is the largest shareholder in SYABAS with its 70 per cent stake.
He said that Puncak Niaga’s annual report for the 2011 financial year showed the firm’s executive directors drew a combined pay of RM17.25 million. He then went on to insist that RM10 million be given to Selangor residents as compensation instead.
“KEADILAN demands that RM10 million from this salary be cut immediately and SYABAS has to contribute to a fund to give immediate compensation to residents involved,” he said.
Rafizi also said PKR will set up a legal team to aid those wishing to sue SYABAS and Puncak Niaga for compensation over their alleged failure to manage the state’s water resources.--MalaysianInsider
