SHAH ALAM: Kerajaan negeri Selangor telah menghantar notis amaran kepada Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) kerana gagal membekalkan air terawat kepada para pengguna.
Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim berkata, jika Syabas gagal melaksanakan tanggungjawab itu maka kerajaan negeri berhak untuk menamatkan perjanjian konsesi.
“Setelah itu, kerajaan negeri akan mengambil alih fungsi Syabas untuk membekalkan air terawat ke seluruh Selangor,” katanya selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat mingguan exco di sini petang tadi.
Menurutnya, Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri (MMKN) pada 28 Mac lalu dimaklumkan bahawa Syabas gagal menyediakan perkhidmatan bekalan air terawat kepada beberapa pemaju di Selangor hingga menyebabkan pelaksanaan projek-projek mereka terjejas.
“Tindakan Syabas jelas sekali bertentangan dengan terma yang dipersetujui dalam perjanjian konsesi yang ditandatangani kerajaan Pusat,
Negeri dan syarikat konsesi pada 15 Disember 2004,” katanya.
Katanya, kerajaan negeri memandang berat perkara itu dan jika kegagalan berkenaan terus berlaku maka ia dianggap sebagai satu pelanggaran terma terhadap perjanjian konsesi.

Bernama:RM241.98 Million For Nine Kelantan Water Supply Projects
The Federal Government approved an interest-free loan of RM241.98 million as allocation for the implementation of nine water supply projects in Kelantan, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon.
She told the Dewan Rakyat Wednesday that the projects were implemented under the 9th and 10th Malaysia Plan (RMK10).
"Of the total, seven projects were completed while the rest would be continued in RMK10," she said when replying to a question by Amran Ab Ghani (PKR-Tanah Merah) who wanted to know the status of water supply projects in Kelantan.-- BERNAMA

TheStar:Task force to plug water leakage
PETALING JAYA: In its efforts to tackle the problem of water loss, the Government has set up a task force that targets to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) from 36% of total amount of water produced currently to 25% by 2020.
“The recently formed task force will monitor the status and progress of NRW management efforts under a management action plan,'' an industry player told StarBizWeek, adding that strategies and best practices of NRW management internationally were also being studied.
NRW is the difference between the amount of water put into the distribution system and the amount of water billed to consumers.
By 2010, NRW in the country, including Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, had climbed to 35.19% out of 5.13 million cubic metres of water produced.
The task force, which was set up by the National Water Services Commission or SPAN, comprises the CEO of SPAN, Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry officials, National Audit Department, national water asset management company PAAB, two non-governmental organisations and water operators.

THE Federal Government is allowing Selangor to operate the recently completed Labu treatment plant, possibly sending a signal that the water talks could move to more amicable ground.
“The Selangor government insisted on operating the plant; otherwise, it would not approve the extraction of water from Sungai Labu,” Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin tells StarBizWeek.
“The Sungai Semenyih plant is now overloaded in capacity by as much as 40%. We want to relieve it by rediverting the water that is presently used for the KLIA area.”
The RM232mil Labu plant supplying 105 million litres per day (MLD) will be like a dedicated plant for the KLIA region, bearing in mind that KLIA 2 will be coming up.
“We are now using the Labu plant to supply to the KLIA area and relieve Sungai Semenyih of overcapacity.
“We are now agreeing to allow the special purpose vehicle set up by the Selangor Government to operate Labu,” Chin says.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) has welcomed the federal government's decision to allow the Selangor government to operate the Sungai Labu water treatment plant (WTP), construction of which was completed recently.
Its executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said, with the plant coming onstream, an additional 105 million litres of water daily (MLD) would be availabe for distribution by March 2013 to some of the areas currently supplied by the Sungei Semenyih WTP.
"Stage 1 of the Sungai Labu WTP commenced operations on March 20 with supply capacity of 45MLD and among the areas receiving the supply include KLIA, the F1 circuit and other areas in Sepang, besides Sungai Pelek, Bagan Lalang, Tanjung Sepat and Kundang," he said in a statement here.
He said total capacity for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya following the Stage 1 operation had risen to 4,371 MLD from 4,326 MLD previously while reserve capacity was expected to increase from 106.8 MLD and 151.8 MLD.
"This clearly shows that the Federal Government is serious and committed towards resolving water issues faced by Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The efforts made have also shown that the interest of the consumers are given priority above all else.-- BERNAMA
