SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is seeking an additional allocation of RM114mil, with RM61.6mil to be used to sustain the free water programme.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim tabled the Supplementary Supply Bill which passed the first and second reading yesterday.
This would bring the state budget to almost RM1.6bil, as the state assembly had already passed RM1.43bil last year, and an additional RM49.3mil in April this year.
Khalid said of the RM114mil, a total of RM81mil would be channelled to the state treasury for general expenses.
“A total of RM61.6mil would go to funding the free water and coupon scheme, while another RM10mil is needed for the Selangor Disaster Relief Fund,” he told the assembly.
He added that RM8.17mil would go to reconcile the state investment statement with the Paddy Management Centralised System Trust Fund, and RM1.36mil for the Shah Alam City Council to manage the Shah Alam Royal Theatre.
The state Public Works Department (JKR) and state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) would be allocated RM10mil and RM1.8mil respectively for vehicle purchases, he said.
A further RM1.29mil would go to the allowances of state assemblymen, after the motion to increase their allowances was passed in April this year.
Another RM20mil would be allocated for the expenses of the Mentri Besar and state secretariat, he said.
Datuk Shamsudin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) hit out at the state government over its poor financial planning and for needing two supplementary allocations this year.
“This RM114mil is 7.8% of the original budget. And the first supplementary budget was 3.4% of the original budget.
“Within six months, there were two motions for extra allocations. It involves a lot of money,” he said when debating the bill.
At the lobby, Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) said the state had set aside RM150mil annually to provide 20 cubic metres of free water to each household.
