Higher water tariff for the people was the reason why the Selangor state government opposed to the Sungai Langat 2 water treatment plant project, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said Wednesday.
"We believe the construction of Sungai Langat 2 project would burden the people with higher water tariffs as the costlier the project, the more water tariff the people will have to pay," he told a press conference here after chairing a weekly state executive council meeting.
The project has been put on hold pending the approval from the Selangor government on matters including land and the cost of water.
Abdul Khalid reiterated that the water restructuring exercise in Selangor, which was being negotiated with the federal government, can reduce the rate of non-revenue water (NRW) in the state.
"We have enough (water) treatment plants and more than enough supply of raw water. The issue here is on treated water.-- BERNAMA
