Bernama:Selangor MB Insists Unnecessary To Build Sungai Langat 2 Plant

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today insisted that it was unnecessary to build the Sungai Langat 2 water treatment plant and said other alternatives could still be considered to tackle the anticipated water shortage in the state.
He said the channelling of water from Kenyir Lake in Terengganu was an alternative measure to resolve the water shortage problem.

"There are many alternatives (to resolving the problem), and they include channelling raw water from Kenyir Lake, the cost of which will be much lower," he told reporters after an assembly of staff from Selangor government departments, here.

Abdul Khalid was asked to comment on the call by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister and Selangor Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar that the state government should give the go-ahead for the construction of the Sungai Langat 2 project to meet the rising demand for water in the state.

The project has been put on hold pending the approval from the Selangor government on matters including land and the cost of water.-- BERNAMA
