The Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is
optimistic that the tourism industry will not be affected by the water
rationing which to be enforced in Selangor from tomorrow.
Instead, he said the ministry was confident that the target of having 28
million tourist arrivals in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year
(VMY) 2014 would be achieved.
"Normally, people who come here for holiday would have booked (their
flights and accommodations) three months in advance and I don't think
that just because the (water rationing) announcement, they will cancel
their visits to Malaysia...only natural disaster will give such an
impact.
"Water rationing is done only to ensure sufficient supply during this
dry season and lack of rain," he told reporters after launching the VMY
2014 With Firefly campaign at the Skypark Terminal in Subang here today.
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today announced that
the state government would enforce water rationing throughout the state
tomorrow to help areas that had been experiencing water supply
disruption since Feb 7.
He said the water rationing would help to conserve water in the dams
over the next two months should the current dry season prolong.
Earlier in his speech, Mohamed Nazri said as Firefly flies as many as
126,000 passengers a month, the VMY 2014 advertising campaign was
expected to reach as many as 1.5 million passengers a year throughout
Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.
He said the campaign had used 12 ATR 72-600 aircrafts to the showcase
the VMY logo themed 'Celebrating 1Malaysia Truly Asia' on the exterior,
while the interior of the aircrafts were painted with pictures of
Malaysia's famous tourist attractions, such as food and culture, beaches
and eco-tourism destinations.
"Tourism Malaysia's calendar of events has also been made available at
every passenger's seat, while all the cabin crew will also be wearing
the VMY 2014 badge during this campaign," he added.
