The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has approved the
application for the second phase of scheduled water distribution in
Selangor starting Sunday.
SPAN chairman Datuk Ismail Kasim said the second phase of scheduled
water distribution would be carefully done considering the large number
of people and areas involved.
"Syabas will announce details of the second phase of scheduled water
distribution in Selangor latest by Friday," he said in a statement
Tuesday.
Ismail said the water level in the seven dams in Selangor shows that only two dams recorded alarming levels.
"Only two dams, Sungai Selangor and Klang Gates dropped to alarming
levels with reserves of 48.94 percent and 54.10 percent respectively.
The total discharge of raw water from Sungai Selangor Dam is about
1,800 million litres daily (MLD), Sungai Tinggi Dam about 1,200 MLD and
Klang Gates Dam at 120 MLD."
Ismail said the need for raw water in Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya is about 4,900 MLD.
"The Selangor state government has approved that for the release of
water in Sungai Selangor Dam be reduced up to 500 MLD in four phases."
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim yesterday announced that the
state government will implement water rationing by rotation from
tomorrow to balance distribution in areas with disruption since Feb 7.
Khalid said under the programme, the areas involved would have water
supply for two days followed by rationing for the next two days.
